Webb: This is the City. Los Angeles, California. Some people rob for pleasure. Some rob because it's there. You never know. My name's Friday, I'm a cop. I was working the day watch out of robbery when I got a call from the Acme School Bell Company. There'd been a robbery.

Johnny Carson: There's been a robbery.

Jack Webb: Yes sir, what was it?

JC: My clappers.

JW: Your clappers?

JC: Yeah you know, those things inside the bell that makes them clang?

JW: The clangers?

JC: Yes, that's right, we call them clappers in the business.

JW: A clapper caper.

JC: What's that?

JW: Nothing sir, now can I have the facts? What kind of clappers were stolen on this caper?

JC: They were copper clappers.

JW: And where were they kept?

JC: In the closet.

JW: Uh huh. You have any ideas who might have taken the copper clappers from the closet?

JC: Well, just when I fired a man he'd swore he'd get even.

JW: What was his name?

JC: Claude Cooper.

JW: You think he...

JC: That's, that's right. I think Claude Cooper copped my copper clappers kept in the closet.

JW: You know where this Claude Cooper is from?

JC: Yeap, Cleveland.

JW: That figures.

JC: What makes it worse was that they were clean.

JW: Clean copper clappers?

JC: That's right.

JW: Why would you think Cleveland's Claude Cooper would cop your clean copper clappers kept in your closet?

JC: Only one reason.

JW: What's that?

JC: He's a kleptomaniac.

JW: Who first discovered the copper clappers were copped?

JC: My cleaning woman, Clara Clifford.
